New Delhi: Following in the line of Apple's Siri and Google Now of Google Android, Canadian phone maker BlackBerry is likely to announce a smartphone with a voice-controlled virtual assistant.

According to reports, the company will announce Passport smartphone that will have Siri-like voice-controlled assistant call BlackBerry assistant.

Microsoft was the latest to add a voice assistants or personal assistant to its Windows Phone in the form of Cortana.

BlackBerry Passport, which is expected to arrive this fall, will perform numerous functions found in other voice controlled assistants such as Siri of iOS and Google Now of Google Android, the report said.

It can search email and calendar appointments as well as compose and send emails through voice commands, The Verge reported.

It is unclear if the BlackBerry assistant will have distinctiveness like Siri or it will be robotic like Google Now.
